Day 6

10:30 am - 90.8g

Jumps to the glove, back and forth between me and kid to get Vicious used to other people. MAJOR hesitation in getting her to jump to kid's glove. Don't know if it's because she was not motivated enough or if kid was nervous. I ended up having to hold kid's tidbit hand in one of my own before V would jump. Started at 3 inches again and increased it arm length.

Afterward, tossed lure onto the table to get her used to it.

2:40 pm - 90.4g

Jumps to the glove from perch with lure on glove. Slight hesitation but was jumping. Tidbit held up. I think 89g will motivate her more.

6:40 pm - 92.6g

Had to run to grocery store and do some more bucking wood, so went ahead and fed her on the lure. Put tidbit on the lure and called her to the glove. Expected hesitation at first. Next few tidbits were tied to the lure and put on the table. Jiggled the lure and she watched it, head bobbing. Just before I was going to call it quits, she jumped on the lure to eat the large tidbit. Called it a night.

Day 5

6:40 am - 93.4g

8:30 am - 91.3g

11:20 am - 90.2

Held tidbit in right hand, up at breast level, with glove presented. She hesitated, so I lowered the tidbit to turn away. Just as tidbit reached glove level and I was about a 1/4 turned, she jumped to the glove at 3 inches away.

I moved 6 inches away and did it again. If tidbit was held up, no jump. Lowered tidbit and instant jump. Moved a foot back and did it again. Again, same thing. Ended at 94.2g in order to get in one more workout later.

3:20 pm - 92.1g

4:50 pm - 91.3g

Still a bit high for working out but we had to go out and cut fallen trees across the driveway and take photos of the damage before adjustor showed up on Saturday.

Did more jumps to the glove. First couple of jumps with tidbit lowered. Next three, jumps to glove were done with tidbits held up. Got a good four feet away from perch to glove.

Ended 101.0g

Spoke with Sponsor Ken. I'm to introduce the lure as next step.

Day 4

Day 4

5:50am 94.6g - no interest in tidbit

9:30am 93.0g - eyed the tidbit but did not take.

1:30pm 91.3g - Absolutely no hesitation whatsoever. She saw the tidbit and reached for it. Made her reach, really lean out to take it. No hesitation.

5pm 93.8g - no hesitation. In fact, I put her on the scale perch and go to unclip her, she's leaning down toward my bare fingers, looking for the tidbit.

Am not even needing to hood her to weigh her. I have to scrape her off the glove to get onto the scale perch though. We're still working with the hood though.

She's doing well in going from the perch to the glove and going from glove to perch. She doesn't sit on the perch for long before she's bating, but she'll sit on the glove, still.

She did feel comfortable enough on the perch to do a full preen job on her feathers.

She lets me touch her feet for a bit and a quick, light touch of her breast feathers, before she tries to bite. Still flares her tail and gapes if we come up on her too fast or too fast and too close. Mornings are the worst as she bates off the perch to get away from us as we approach.

Day 3

Day 3
6am - 94.4g

Hesitated on the tidbit, but as I lowered it, she perked up and took interest. I lowered it on the glove at her feet and she would eat it. 2.1g of tidbit as long as it was from the glove.

All day, we alternated between being tethered to the perch and on the glove. Does not like the perch for very long, would bate off onto the mat and stand on the mat. She'd jump back on the perch. A couple of times, I'd scoop her up with bare hand to transfer her to the perch. Yeah...she got me good once on that one. Dang sharp little beaks. LOL.

When on the glove, she napped and did a little preening. Bated a couple of times - more just trying to fly off and reached the end of the jesses and coming up short. She'd regain the glove all but once on her own, the one time I had to swing her up a bit and she'd flutter her way back to the glove.

3:05pm - 93.1g

Hooding her is getting easier. Course, she could have just been in a good mood this time. She gapes a little at the hood but it goes on without her trying to eat it. We did it without having to hold onto her, she was on the glove when I slipped the hood on her.

Presented soaked sparrow tidbit with fingers. She hesitated a split second and then leaned in to take it. At her breast level (below crop), a couple of inches away. Not sure if the hesitation was because Spike moved behind me or she wasn't sure about my fingers. Ate 3 more tidbits at that level, with no hesitation after that. Even cleaned the tiny bits off my fingers without fuss.

Still occasionally flares up when we walk by, but for the most part, she's coming around and settling down.

Day 2 - A.M.

Day 2:

5:55am 97.4g (103.8 minus the hood and stocking)

On glove, hesitant to take tidbit at first. Picked at it then ate it. Next tidbit was better received but still flighty about any movements. Next tidbit was lowered to glove and she ate from the glove, but still jumpy. Had 2.6g tidbits total before "Oh, wait...humans..." kicked in.

Still flares up head feathers and tail if approached or hand gets near.
